Hyderabad: Goshamahal police have clarified that claims circulating on social media that the ‘Lee Chee Ka Raja Ganesh – 2026’ idol was made of Panchaloha, weighed around 48 kg, coated with 24-carat gold and studded with 3,83,800 American diamonds are false and misleading.
Goshamahal Station House Officer (SHO) B Sravan Kumar said the idol installed within the police station limits was not made with the materials or in the manner claimed in the messages being circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. In particular, he said the claim that the idol had 24-carat gold plating was false.
The police said certain organisers associated with the ‘Lee Chee Ka Raja Ganesh’ had allegedly circulated and publicised the claims, including the gold-plating claim, to advertise and promote their business interests, LEE CHEE PEARLS AND JEWELS, and allegedly obtain wrongful gain by creating a false impression among the public.
Sravan Kumar said exaggerated and unverified claims about the idol’s composition and value could mislead people and create unnecessary confusion. He appealed to the public not to believe, forward or circulate unverified information, photographs or videos concerning the idol.
The SHO urged social media users to rely on verified and official information and exercise caution before forwarding claims relating to the idol’s gold plating, Panchaloha composition, weight or the number of diamonds allegedly used.
He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in preventing the spread of rumours and misleading information and maintaining peace, public order and harmony during the Ganesh Festival.
