Hyderabad: Telangana Police have denied permission for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) farmers’ rally and public meeting in Nalgonda’s Miryalaguda on Wednesday, September 3, citing traffic concerns.
The pink party had planned to hold a rally from the flyover bridge to Rajiv Chowk between 1 pm and 5 pm, followed by a public meeting. Working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) was scheduled to attend.
Former MLA and Miryalaguda BRS in-charge Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao had sought police permission for the programme. He said the protest was aimed at highlighting farmers’ issues, including agriculture, irrigation, electricity, urea shortage and Rythu Bharosa.
The permission was rejected, stating that Rajiv Chowk is a busy junction with narrow roads and heavy traffic. There are alternative routes or parking spaces and that a large gathering could cause traffic problems.
“The National Highway-167 connecting Kodad and Jadcherla passes through Rajiv Chowk, which can lead to a large gathering, affecting vehicular movement,” read the statement.
Taking a jibe on Revanth Reddy’s recent statement about party supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao’s absence from public life, Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy said the denial of permission shows the Chief Minister was still concerned about KCR’s political influence on the people of Telangana.
“The protest would go as planned,” he said.
