The exchange of fire started in a forest of the Indravati National Park when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation following inputs about the presence of senior Maoist cadres, he said.
Sudhakar was among the Maoist delegation which held peace talks with the undivided Andhra Pradesh government in 2005.
A native of Pragadavaram village of Chintalapudi mandal in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh, has been active in the revolutionary movement for the past 40 years. He has been carrying a reward of Rs 50 lakh on his head in different states.
The security forces recovered automatic rifles and explosives from the spot of the encounter.
