Delhi: Indian passenger held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.15 crore from Bahrain

The passenger was arrested on the basis of intelligence inputs.

New Delhi: Customs officials arrested Indian passengers coming from Bahrain for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 1.15 crore at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Taking to X, Delhi Customs said that the passenger was arrested on the basis of intelligence inputs on Wednesday, March 13, and caught smuggling gold weighing 2005 grams.

The undeclared gold was confiscated from the passenger. Investigations are ongoing following the arrest of passengers under the Customs Act, of 1962.

This was not the first time that gold was being smuggled into the country by passengers arriving from the Gulf. Customs authorities at Indian airports have often apprehended several for smuggling gold into the country.

On Thursday, March 7, customs officials in Delhi seized 2822 grams of gold worth more than Rs 1.61 crore from the front toilet of the aircraft from Abu Dhabi via Mumbai.
