Hyderabad: All India Majlis e Ittehad ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Friday, February 9, appealed to the Telangana government to expedite arrangements for Ramzan in Hyderabad to ensure convenience to Muslims in the city.
Akbaruddin Owaisi, speaking on the second day of the Telangana Assembly Budget Session, urged the government to call for a review meeting for the arrangements of Ramzan and sanction maintenance works around mosques and other religious structures in Hyderabad.
“I urge the government to call a meeting and ensure that works are completed before the beginning of Ramzan and the implementation of the election code of conduct. I bring this to your notice because it does happen every year that 10 days ahead of Ramzan, meetings are held, proposals are made and works begin after the completion of the month,” said Akbaruddin Owaisi.
‘Congress must ensure Communal peace in Telangana, safety of Muslims’
Akbaruddin Owaisi in his speech cited the importance of ensuring safety and a peaceful environment in the state amid attempts to disrupt it.
While stating that the former BRS government had ensured a peaceful environment and curbed communal incidents, he slammed the Congress government over the rising communal incidents in the state, in the last two months. “I must address the incidents that have occurred in the state since the Congress government has taken charge. In Daulatabad, Sangareddy Muslim properties were damaged in communal clashes, last month.”
Akbaruddin Owaisi also threw light on another incident from Nizamabad where three Muslim youths were reportedly attacked on the occasion of Shab e Meraj. He demanded strict action against the perpetrators.
He cited the Amnesty International report that called on the Centre and state governments to immediately halt the de-facto policy of demolishing people’s homes as a form of extra-judicial punishment and urged against “unlawful demolitions” of Muslims’ homes, businesses, and places of worship.
He also demanded that equal representation be given to minorities and Muslims in state administration roles and corporations alongside a proper allocation of budget for the skill development of Muslim youth in Hyderabad.
