New Delhi: E-commerce marketplace Flipkart on Tuesday, September 15, said it has generated over 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities across India to meet surging demand ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Nearly 75,000 of these positions — close to 30 per cent — are entering the workforce for the first time, the company said in a statement.

“The festive season brings together the full scale of India’s commerce ecosystem, and our supply chain plays a critical role in making that possible. This year, we are expanding our fulfilment and last-mile network significantly to meet rising customer demand while creating employment opportunities across the country,” said Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain, Customer Experience and Re-Commerce, Flipkart Group.

According to the company, last-mile delivery will account for 60 per cent of the new roles, translating to nearly 1.4 lakh additional opportunities. Flipkart is also adding more than 900 new festive delivery hubs to cater to rising demand in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, as well as the scaling of its quick-commerce service, Flipkart Minutes.

Flipkart noted that women now comprise more than 20 per cent of its supply chain workforce.
