Heavy rains lash Hyderabad on Sunday evening, more rains forecasted till Sept 19

Apart from the Sunday's rains, thunderstorms have been predicted in all districts of Telangana till September 19.

Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Sunday evening, September 14, recording over 10-12 cm rainfall in several areas. The rain which started at around 6 pm, continued till 9 pm and was expected to subside only after 11 pm, according to India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad.

Several areas including Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Narapalli, Abdullapurmet, Uppal, Koti, Jubilee Hills, Babnjara Hills, Gachibowli, Basheerbagh, Nampally, Koti, LB Nagar, Hayathnagar, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Kapra, Mallapur and ECIL witnessed heavy rains.

Due to water flooding Uppal X Roads and the highway between Uppal and Warangal, traffic came to a standstill.

Hyderabad traffic police posted on it’s X handle that due to water-logging conditions at Mehdi Function Hall at Saifabad, Ayodhya Junction, Tolichowki, Shaikpet Nala, and Retibowli Junction, traffic was being diverted from Retibowli towards Shaikpet Nala, and from Nanal Nagar towards Langer House.

The commuters have been advised to plan alternative routes.

Mayor supervises water clearing efforts

Water-logging in front of the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) on Banjara Hills Road Number 12 brought the traffic to a standstill. Hyderabad mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi reached the spot and personally monitored the clearing of flood water from the road by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.

The forecast

Scattered intense storms were also expected to hit several districts including Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Khammam till 10 pm, according to local weather enthusiast T Balaji.

Orange alert issued for Hyderabad

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad has issued an orange alert forecasting 5-15 cm of rain per hour in Hyderabad, Malkajgiri, Mulugu, Sangareddy, Warangal and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.

A yellow alert has also been issued for Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanamakonda, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Komuram Bheem, Mahbubabad, Medak, Nalgonda, Pedapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Rangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet and Vikarabad with forecast of less than 5 cm of rain per hour.

IMD Hyderabad forecasts thunderstorms all across Telangana till Sep 19

The IMD, Hyderabad has forecasted scattered heavy rainfall in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet. This forecast is valid till 8:30 am on September 15.

Apart from this thunderstorms have been predicted for all districts of Telangana till September 19.
