
Hyderabad: A group of female students allegedly faced police brutality in Adibatla on Tuesday, June 23, while they were demanding their academic certificates from the college administration.
As students had gathered outside the Sri Chaitanya College for a peaceful protest, chaos descended when the Adibatla Circle Inspector (CI) Ravi Kumar hit a few students to disperse the crowd. Some protestors asked the CI to stop and said, “What are you doing? these are girls.”
However, Kumar did not pay heed and continued to assault students.
Some of the students were detained while others pleaded with police officials to let them go. One of the protestors was heard saying, “Record this, this is not right.” The CI forcibly shoved a detainee into the police vehicle.
Police deny hitting students
Speaking to Siasat.com, CI Ravi Kumar denied hitting female students. “The police did not hit any female students. Some people misused the protest to create ruckus and blocked the road for two hours from 4 pm to 6:30 pm.”
However, the video shows that the police officer hitting the women, even as he denied it.
Kumar said that those who created ruckus were detained and booked for obstructing the traffic under section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
