Nagarjuna files defamation case against Telangana min Konda Surekha

The petition was filed in response to the minister's alleged defamatory remarks about his family

Hyderabad: Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna filed a defamation case against minister Konda Surekha in the Nampally court on Wednesday, October 3. The petition was filed in response to the minister’s defamatory remarks about his family during a Gandhi Jayanti event at Bapu Ghat, Langar Houz.

In the petition, Nagarjuna claimed that the minister’s remarks, made in a media interaction, tarnished the reputation of his family. He stated that Konda Surekha falsely attributed his son Naga Chaitanya’s divorce to political interference.

Naga Chaitanya and Samantha parted ways in 2021 mutually after being married for 4 years. The duo decided to keep the reason for their separation private.

In a statement to the media, minister Konda Surekha alleged that not just Samantha, but several other actors got married early because of KTR.

“KTR is 100% responsible for Samantha-Naga Chaitanya’s divorce. He demanded that Samantha be sent to him in return for not demolishing the N-Convention. Nagarjuna asked Samantha to go him but she refused to go. So they asked her to leave, that’s how the divorce happened,” Surekha alleged.

The defamatory statement, made in Telugu was quoted in the petition and translated into English for the court’s further review.

Nagarjuna emphasized that such malicious allegations threatened to tarnish the family’s legacy and sought legal action to protect their honour and reputation.

The case is set to be heard in the Nampally court under Section 356 of the BNS

Nagarjuna, Akkineni family slam Konda Surekha

Responding to Konda Surekha’s allegations, Nagarjuna Akkineni stated on x, “I strongly condemn the comments of the Honorable Minister Mrs. Konda Surekha. Don’t use the lives of movie stars who stay away from politics to criticize your opponents. Please respect other people’s privacy”

He further emphasized that “As a woman in a responsible position, your comments and accusations against our family are completely irrelevant and false. I request you to withdraw your comments immediately.”

Telugu actor Samantha expressed disappointment over remarks made by Telangana minister Konda Surekha over her divorce from actor Naga Chaitanya and emphasized the importance of respecting the personal matters of actors.

Samantha’s statement was a reaction to Telangana minister Konda Surekha’s claims that former minister KTR was the reason behind the couple’s divorce.

In a statement on X, Samantha expressed her concerns over the minister’s remarks while highlighting a woman’s struggle to succeed in the industry. She requested to keep her name away from politics, as she does herself. “To be a woman, to come out and work, to survive in a glamorous industry where women are more often than not treated as props, it takes a lot of courage and strength.”

Naga Chaitanya stated that the minister’s claim is not only false but also absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable.

“Women deserved to be supported and respected. Taking advantage and exploiting the personal life decisions of celebrities for the sake of media headlines is shameful,” he said.

Naga Chaitanya’s stepmother Amala Akkineni has lashed out at Konda Surekha for her comments.

“Shocked to hear a woman minister turn into a demon, conjuring evil fictions allegations, preying on decent citizens as fuel for a political war. Madam Minister, do you rely and believe people with no decency to feed you utterly scandalous stories about my husband without an iota of shame or truth? This is really shameful. If leaders lower themselves into the gutter and behave like criminals, what will happen to our country?” she asked on ‘X’

Amala appealed to the Congress leader to make the Minister retract her statement. “Mr Rahul Gandhiji, if you believe in human decency, please restrain your politicians and make your minister retract her venomous statements with an apology to my family. Protect the citizens of this country,” she added.
