Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena President K Kavitha on Monday, August 24, alleged that the Congress government has introduced smart electricity meters to support the Adani Group.
Kavitha attended an exhibition organised by the Telangana government at Necklace Road, where she was briefed on the smart electricity meters. “I feel these meters will lead to higher electricity bills as compared to the regular ones,” she alleged.
In a post on X, she said that the exhibition was organised to brainwash the people. “The Revanth Reddy government is signing on to the new scheme brought by the Centre and attempting to install smart meters in the state. These smart meters are being introduced to promote the Adani business and to cause harm to the people. To brainwash the public regarding this, a demo programme is also being conducted on Necklace Road.”
Earlier in the day, the TRS president attacked the Congress government for introducing the meters, alleging that this move has once again proven that it stands not on the side of the poor but on the side of the wealthy. It has unveiled a conspiracy to install smart meters on power connections provided free of charge to corporations and to eliminate the subsidies given to the poor.
“It is clear that the Telangana government is anti-poor and the exhibition on smart electricity meters. Telangana already has smart meters and there is no need for electricity department to note the readings on a paper,” Kavithat said in a video message.
She added that the new electricity meters are based on a prepaid model, which she claimed has already been used in Uttar Pradesh, and the people have approached the electricity department to return the meters. “The prepaid meters will provide a certain number of units and stop functioning abruptly; this is wrong,” she claimed.
