Telangana govt sets up panel to probe Bhupalpalli DTO death

The panel will investigate the accident, examine existing enforcement protocols and recommend measures to ensure the safety of field officers.

Hyderabad: Hours after a District Transport Officer (DTO) was mowed to death while on duty on Monday, June 22, the Telangana government has ordered a detailed inquiry into the case.

The probe will be led by Joint Transport Commissioner (Road Safety Cell) M Chandra Shekar Goud, who will investigate the accident, examine existing enforcement protocols and recommend measures to ensure the safety of field officers.

“The inquiry will also look into safety equipment and standard operating procedures for vehicle checks and seizure operations to prevent similar incidents in the future,” stated a release from the government.

Bhupalpally DTO M Venkanna was killed during vehicle checks on the Parakala-Bhupalpalli highway in Jayashankar Bhupalpalli district when a coal tipper lorry ran him over and fled the scene.

He died on the spot. The impact left his body badly mutilated. Police have arrested the tipper driver.
