Telangana: Officials put on high alert over rain forecast

The IMD projects heavy rainfall and the impact will be seen from Sunday afternoon.

Hyderabad: As heavy rains are forecast in Telangana over the next two days, chief secretary Somesh Kumar has asked officials to be on high alert.

Kumar stressed preventing loss of life due to rains, as chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao directed him to take stalk of the preparations to tackle the challenges posed by rains. In wake of floods and due to the rising danger levels of the Godavari river, the government is planning to strengthen its response to such situations in the future.

Kumar addressed the senior officials and District Collectors through teleconferencing, appraising them of the current situation in the state and said, “There is a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert over the next couple of days”. He directed the officials to set up relief camps.

The chief secretary further asked the officials to work in coordination to ensure the implementation of preventive measures and see that no untoward incident occurs.

“The IMD projects heavy rainfall and the impact will be seen from tomorrow afternoon. There may be breaches to irrigation tanks, roads, causeways are also likely to be submerged,” said Kumar

“As the tanks, ponds and reservoirs are in spate, officials should be on high alert and see that sandbags are kept ready if breaches to vulnerable tanks take place,” he added.
