Bijnor: Uttar Pradesh police claimed to have uncovered an alleged conspiracy involving a village head who framed a Muslim man in a calf slaughter case in Bijnor.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Bijnor, Prakash Kumar, on Sunday, June 21, said five people were arrested for allegedly slaughtering a calf in an attempt to falsely implicate a potential rival in the upcoming gram pradhan election.
The incident took place under the Noorpur police station limits in Changipur village, with the accused carrying out the cow slaughter on the night of June 17.
As planned, the following morning, the incumbent village pradhan, Jagpal, gathered several local Hindu organisations and publicly accused Hasan and his companions of cow slaughter, police said.
A case was subsequently registered against Hasan on June 18 under Sections 3, 5, and 8 of the Uttar Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prevention Act.
Accused Faizan held after encounter
However, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Faizan following an encounter on June 20. During questioning, he confessed to carrying out the act along with his associates at the behest of the village head and his brother Kiranpal.
The accused Jagpal allegedly planned to falsely implicate Hasan in the case and have him sent to jail. Jagpal feared that Hasan might contest the forthcoming gram pradhan election and defeat him, ASP Kumar said.
Based on the investigation, police arrested Jagpal, Kiranpal, Faizan, and two other accused in the case. Officers recovered one illegal pistol with an empty cartridge and animal slaughtering equipment from Faizan.
Further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
