Centre betrayed Telangana on promises, water diverted to AP: MP Vamsi

Vamsi also said thousands of crores are being given to Andhra Pradesh while Telangana gets only small projects worth around Rs 100 crores.

Hyderabad: Peddapalli Member of Parliament (MP) Gaddam Vamsi Krishna on Wednesday, April 1, attacked the central government for the “continued injustice being meted” out to Telangana. Speaking in the Parliament, he pointed out that even after the state’s formation, several promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act remain unfulfilled.

Referring to the AP Reorganisation Act (brought in for the bifurcation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh), MP Vamsi said that despite the promises made in the act, injustice continues against the state. Vamshe highlighted the Banakacherla project being taken up by Andhra Pradesh on the Krishna River, which he said will affect Telangana. Both the Telugu states share water from the Krishna river, which is managed by a central government appointed board.

“About 1 lakh crore rupees has been allocated for that project. If that project comes, about 200 TMCs, which rightfully should come to Telangana, will be diverted. North Telangana area, where I come from, will be drought prone,” stated the Peddapalli MP. He added that the Centre is supporting the project and favouring the AP government led by AP Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu whose party is part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

Vamsi also pointed out the disparity in the number of airports between both Telangana and AP. “There are 7 to 9 airports in Andhra Pradesh. But there is only one airport in Telangana. Why are you doing injustice to Telangana?” he asked in the Parliament, according to a release from his office. He also mentioned that the proposed airport in his constituency of Peddapalli has not moved forward

Vamsi also said thousands of crores are being given to Andhra Pradesh while Telangana gets only small projects worth around Rs 100 crores. “There is also a Urea crisis in RFCL, Telangana, but there is no crisis in Andhra Pradesh. Farmers are continuing to suffer. The industrial corridor and the latest semiconductor facility that has also not been sanctioned to us,” he added.
