The play will be in the true tradition of Baig’s heritage theatre, akin to the historical pageants he performed in Golconda Fort and Chowmohalla Palace in the late 70s and early 80s.

The producer, playwright, director and actor did 46 plays in 46 years of his life and before his untimely demise, he established himself as a complete theatre personality in a region like the Deccan where theatre was a virtually unheard-of art form.

Every year, theatre stalwarts from all across the country arrive in Hyderabad to pay tribute to him through their acclaimed plays. This year, the foundation in his name is al set to perform its own original play.

‘Savaan-e-Hayat’ follows the incredible life story of Queen Hayat who was the only woman in history who was the daughter of a king, wife to a king and mother of a king, while also being a defacto empress herself. She thwarted the Mughal invasion of the Deccan using her sharp acumen.

She was known as “Ma Sahiba”, a benevolent ruler who built many architectural landmarks in Hyderabad.

Her story will come to life in the play written by Noor Baig & Mohammad Ali Baig and translated into Urdu by the late Kadir Zaman.

The play is produced by Begum Razia Baig and designed and directed by Mohammad Ali Baig. It features onstage Rashmi Seth, Bhawna Bhardwaj and Freyana Vakil in the titular role, playing Hayat at different stages in her life, with the supporting cast including S A Majeed, Vijay Prasad and Mohammad Ali Baig.
