Hyderabad: Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts saw a sharp dip in temperature over the last two days much before the typical onset of winter in November.
On Tuesday night, the mercury dipped to 17.8°C showing a deviation of -2°C from the usual. The temperature of Reddy Pally in Rangareddy deviated by -4°C and fell to a chilling 12.8°C, data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) suggests.
Several parts within the city’s GHMC limits recorded temperatures dropping below 18°C, changing from last week’s average minimum temperatures at around 20°C across Telangana, according to data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) recorded an even lower 14.2°C, a deviation of -4°C from the norm.
Weather experts say the city’s temperature can dip further to around 14° to 17°C.
In contrast, daytime temperature shows no dip in mercury with the maximum temperature on Tuesday recorded at 32.4°C, a rise of 1°C from the normal. Last week, the city witnessed daytime temperatures at 34.6°C, as per the data from TSDPS.
IMD’s meteorological experts attribute this early onset of winter to the influx of northerlies into the state. Telangana is currently seeing low-level northerlies and north-easterly winds blowing into the state, leading to a temperature drop.
