Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a student from Hyderabad who was depressed over his job search has allegedly died by suicide in the United States (US).
The student has been identified as Sai Pradeep.
Hyderabad student’s job search journey in US
According to reports, Sai Pradeep travelled to the US in 2024 for higher studies and recently completed his master’s degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
He had reportedly been searching for a job in the US for the past four months. According to reports, he became distressed during the prolonged job search. He allegedly died by suicide on August 21.
Further details about the incident involving the Hyderabad student’s job search in the US are awaited.
Earlier suicide cases
In July last year, another student, Vaibhav Duggal, who was in his third year at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centre, El Paso, died by suicide following an academic disciplinary action in Texas.
Later, his family and advocates alleged that an opaque disciplinary process conducted without due process or adequate mental health support caused severe psychological distress, leading to his death.
This year in May, a 26-year-old Andhra student, Iraganaboyina Chandu, allegedly died by suicide in the United States after struggling to secure employment following his post-graduation.
Chandu, a native of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, had completed his master’s degree in Chicago and had been actively searching for a job for several weeks.
The incident raises concern over the availability of job opportunities for students from Hyderabad and other cities in the US after completion of their studies.
