Hyderabad: Actor Allu Arjun did not appear before a Hyderabad court on Monday, June 22, in the Sandhya Theatre stampede case, with his lawyer submitting a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance and permission to attend future hearings through virtual mode. The court adjourned the matter to July 6.
All other accused in the case appeared before the court. Allu Arjun, who has been named accused no 11, is currently in Mumbai for a film shoot, according to reports.
The stampede case
The case stems from the stampede that took place on December 4, 2024, during the premiere of “Pushpa 2: The Rule” at Sandhya 70MM Theatre, when a massive crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor. The incident claimed the life of a woman, Revathi, 39, and left her eight-year-old son with serious injuries.
Chikkadpally Police registered a first information report (FIR) and filed a chargesheet against 23 accused in the last week of December 2025. The theatre owner, partners, manager, lower balcony in-charge and gatekeeper were listed as accused numbers one to 10.
Allu Arjun, his security personnel and members of the theatre management were booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s family.
After reviewing the chargesheet, the court issued summons directing all the accused to appear before it. Allu Arjun had been taken into custody briefly following the incident and was later granted bail.
