‘Medical ko gaya tha’: Funny side of Mission Chabutra in Hyderabad

As police are going full throttle with the drive youths are conjuring up excuses that are hilarious and could rival the most creative fiction

Hyderabad: As Hyderabad police intensify its Chabutra Mission in Old City areas ahead of the Ganesh festival and Milad-un-Nabi, a comical twist has emerged in this bid to maintain order.

Police officers are going full throttle with their Chabutra Mission to ensure order and prevent untoward incidents, questioning youngsters about their late-night escapades. Sometimes, if found suspicious, some youngsters are detained too. However, these youths are conjuring up excuses that are hilarious and could rival the most creative fiction.

The most common one is “Medical ku gaya tha,” shared a police officer, hardly able to control his laugh. “Youngsters are carrying a stripe of ‘paracetamol or Brufen tablets’ or some syrup bottles with them. When we stop them, immediately they show it to us and explain ‘medical ko gaya tha,” says the amused cop. “Some tried to escape by showing one or two tablets.”

Picture this: young folks out and about at 2 am in the relentless monsoon, making up tales of medical emergencies, while the police, who once patrolled in the comfort of their Innova vehicles with blaring sirens, now find themselves navigating the streets on foot. Quite the change of pace, wouldn’t you say?

Over the last week as officers to constables have been chasing away youngsters loitering unnecessarily in various neighborhoods well past midnight. The cops have been treated to a hilarious barrage of excuses that have turned what could be tense encounters into moments of shared laughter.

Two days ago, a senior sub-inspector of Shahalibanda PS was amused when he got the same reply from around half a dozen people. Every other person he caught in the lane told him that they were on their way to a medical store to buy medicine.

“When people are stopped for checking and asked to reason why they are moving around late at night, almost all of them are saying ‘Shaadi mein se aarey (we are returning from a wedding)’ or ‘mauta mein se aarey (or we were at a funeral),” a cop revealed.

Those who can’t come up with any other excuses, immediately blurt out: ‘Medical ko gaya tha‘.
