While the likes of Karan Johar, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Siddharth Anand are familiar names in Bollywood for being among the highest paid directors, it might be surprising to know that the top-earning director hails from Tollywood, not Bollywood.

SS Rajamouli, a prominent Indian director, is currently the highest-paid in his field, according to multiple reports including GQ India. He reportedly charges around Rs 200 crore per project and has built up quite an empire in recent times. The 50-year-old filmmaker now commands remuneration on par with top actors either by asking for a fixed fee upfront or else demanding a percentage share in profits.

In 2023 Rajamouli made it to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people globally. His last film RRR won an Oscar for Best Original Song (Naatu Naatu) at the 95th Academy Awards. According to News18, he received 30% of its profits which were over Rs. 1,100 crore worldwide.
