10-day Excise Dept drive nets 841 cases, 651 arrests in Telangana

The department seized 114.32 kg of ganja, 41 gram of MDMA, 310 gram of cocaine and 6.3 gram of heroin during the ten-day operation.

Hyderabad: As many as 841 cases and 651 arrests were made in a 10-day major enforcement drive by the Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department across the state.

The raids conducted from June 12 to 21 were against illicitly distilled liquor, non-duty-paid liquor, ganja and other narcotic substances.

Intensifying its crackdown on narcotic substances, the excise department seized 114.32 kg of ganja, 41 gram of MDMA, 310 gram of cocaine and 6.3 gram of heroin during the operation.

Subhan Bakery

Officials seized 362.72 litre of non-duty paid liquor (NDPL) or illegal liquor with Rangareddy district recorded at 206.56 litre.

In Hyderabad and neighbouring Medak, 66 litre and 49.32 litre were seized respectively.

Illicitly distilled liquor (Gudumba)

The raid saw the seizure of 3,191 litre of illicitly distilled liquor (gudumba) across Telangana, with Warangal recording the highest cases at 260.

As many as 206 persons have been arrested, and 1,400 litre of illicit liquor seized, stated a press release.

Karimnagar stood second with 108 cases, 76 arrests and seizure of 310 litre of illicit liquor, followed by Nalgonda at 86 cases, 58 arrests and 260 litre.

Adilabad registered 80 cases, 76 arrests and seizure of 298 litre of illicit liquor.

Around 64,435 litre of jaggery wash normally used in its preparation was destroyed and another 8,377 kg was seized.
