
Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out at Younus Hosiery located in the SYJ Complex in Pathergatti, Hyderabad, on Thursday, May 21. No loss of life or injuries were reported from the incident; however, the owner of the shop reportedly suffered major losses.
Speaking to Siasat.com, Hyderabad District Fire Officer T Venkanna said the fire was first reported at around 9 am and immediately eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
“The complex consists of a cellar, ground floor and three upper floors. The fire started in the garment shop on the first floor. Four shutters belonging to the garment shop were destroyed in the fire. A bank and a diagnostic centre located near the shop suffered no damage except for their boards getting burnt,” the DFO said.
“Prompt efforts from nearly 50 fire personnel, as well as one vehicle from HYDRAA, saved the 300 shutters located in the complex,” he added.
Fire-fighting operations continued till about 11-12 in the afternoon, the DFO said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Shop owner suffers Rs 2 crore damage
Speaking to media persons, the owner of Younus Hosiery, Mohd Faisal Younus, said that just a day before, the power department had removed the supply connection to a few shops that had not paid their power bills.
He said the fire started in the electrical panel board located next to his shop and spread from there. Younus said he had stocked goods for Bakrid and suffered a loss of Rs 2 crore due to the fire.
