Gunfight in UP leads to arrest of 3; jewellery, firearm seized

Sultanpur: A 24-year-old man charged with many crimes was injured in a gunfight with police in the Akhandnagar area here, leading to the recovery of stolen jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, a motorcycle, and a firearm, an officer said on Monday, August 24.

Vipin Nishad, a resident of Damodarpur in Kadipur, was wounded in the encounter that took place on Sunday night, Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said.

At his instance, the police also arrested Nagendra alias Bablu, a resident of Majhgawan in Kadipur, and Neeraj, a resident of Alipur Kampa in Akhandnagar, both aged 25, he said.

A country-made pistol, one spent cartridge, and one live cartridge were among the recovered items.

Jaiswal said Nishad has 10 cases registered against him at Kadipur and Dostpur police stations. He has been booked in attempt to murder and theft charges, and offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Nagendra has been booked in four cases of theft at Sarpathaha police station in Jaunpur and Dostpur and Motigarpur police stations in Sultanpur, the SP said.
