Saudi King appoints Crown Prince Mohammed as Prime Minister

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s King and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Tuesday issued a royal decree to appoint Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the prime minister of the country.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), King Salman issued a royal order that Mohammed bin Salman be the crown prince and prime minister; as an exception to the provision of Article (56) of the Basic Law of Governance.

While the royal order included the appointment of Prince Khalid bin Salman as Minister of Defense.

In another royal decree, the King restructured the Council of Ministers, headed by the Crown Prince.

King Salman bin Abdulaziz ordered the reformation of the Council of Ministers, on the relevant royal orders, and based on the requirements of the public interest.

Since Prince Mohammed bin Salman assumed his position as crown prince in 2017, he has led a series of legal, political, social, and economic changes in the kingdom.

These changes led to the social and economic openness of the Kingdom within a strategy that aims to transform it into a global economic and political center by 2030, as stipulated in the vision of the young crown prince.
