Gangavathi: Forest department officials have stepped up vigilance in villages around Anegundi following reports of a tiger sighting in the hill ranges, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid venturing alone into forest and hilly areas.
Officials began visiting residential areas surrounding Anegundi and settlements located close to the hills on Sunday evening, using loudspeakers mounted on vehicles to issue safety instructions to residents.
Forest officials said pugmarks suspected to be those of a tiger have been found in forest and hilly areas around the villages, indicating the possible movement of the animal in the region. Teams have been monitoring the area and advising villagers to take precautions until the animal’s movement is ascertained.
Through public announcements, residents have been asked not to move around alone, particularly in areas close to forests and hills. Farmers have also been advised against going alone to their fields and to travel in groups while carrying out agricultural activities.
Officials have imposed a night-time restriction on entering forest areas and warned residents against venturing into hill ranges or isolated locations.
Residents have also been asked to keep cattle and other livestock, including cows, oxen and goats, secured inside sheds or protected enclosures to prevent possible attacks.
“People should avoid moving alone. Farmers should not go alone to fields or other isolated areas. Entry into forests at night is prohibited, and people should not venture into hilly areas. Agricultural activities should be carried out in groups,” officials said through the loudspeaker announcements.
The Forest Department has urged villagers to remain alert but avoid panic. Residents have been advised not to approach or attempt to track the animal if it is sighted and instead immediately inform forest officials.
Officials are continuing to monitor the suspected movement of the tiger and are expected to intensify surveillance in areas where pugmarks have been detected.
The latest development has caused concern among residents living close to the Anegundi hills, particularly those dependent on agriculture and livestock. The Forest Department has appealed to villagers to cooperate with officials and follow the safety instructions until further assessment of the situation is completed.
Authorities have also asked residents requiring further information or assistance to contact the Forest Department.
