Raichur: In a major development concerning the horrific rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman in Hokrani village under Sirwar taluk, police have taken four individuals into custody and produced the prime suspect in court, leading to his judicial remand.
The victim, identified as Ashwini, went missing after stepping outside her home at night. Her body was later recovered from a well in the village the following morning, prompting a formal investigation into charges of sexual assault and murder.
Following a probe into the circumstances surrounding her death, police apprehended four suspects for questioning.
Accused Gundya was presented before a magistrate and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Investigators are currently interrogating the remaining three suspects to establish the full sequence of events and ascertain if additional charges will be filed as forensic analysis progresses.

When the victim failed to return home, her family promptly alerted the Sirwar Police Station. However, duty officers reportedly showed severe apathy and failed to launch an immediate search, preceding the discovery of her body in a local well the next morning.
The systemic delay triggered widespread anger among local residents, who staged demonstrations demanding strict action against the unresponsive officers. Taking note of the administrative lapse and public protest, SP Arunangshu Giri issued suspension orders for constables Bheemaraddi, Veeresh, Devaraj, and Nagaraj pending a departmental inquiry into their conduct.
